*after the strokes*
kiss me now that i'm older
kiss me just to forget her
look away when we're sober
look away we're not over
watch me go all bipolar
watch me break a young molar
stay and let's take it slower
stay and we'll hold my composure

## field notes
this one's an anomaly from my usual writing process.
1. the poem riffs off [12:51 by the strokes](https://open.spotify.com/track/6Yu1OL8I0D4vjOzYdsXYGK?si=eab3a4b6501d42a4). i wrote it entirely through the sound of julian casablancas's dry vocals and the lazy melody line.
1. *Lead guitarist Nick Valensi managed to painstakingly create the sound of a synthesized keyboard with his guitar for this song. [He] reportedly blew out multiple amplifiers while trying to achieve [the tone]. However when a friend heard it, he responded with crushing logic, “Why didn’t he just play a keyboard?” —[Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/comments/m1v2mw/1251the_endred_light_guitar_tone/)*
2. it started as an exercise in form rather than narrative. i made myself stick to couplets, ~7 syllables per line.
then the story wrote itself.
