HEY, MISTER!
WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING
i yelled too late as i
let you veer into my lane
from 1,751 miles away
a crash or a miracle?
to my surprise you walked out,
opened the door for me
like a gentleman and we
surveyed the damage
from your truck bed
i didn't know what to say so i
gave you one long kiss
and two quick knees
that's how strangers on the highway
get even, i think
i even asked you to take a selfie so
you'd never forget my face
who needs insurance
to collect our dues? when
we can pay through memory

## field notes
this one's about disorientation, then redirection.
i had strong verbal concepts for this one — that i thought would make it easy to write — but no...there were lines i really liked and had to throw out because i couldn't get the larger work to flow around them. then i abandoned my initial form after reading a work in progress that the inimitable [anthony thomas lombardi](https://www.instagram.com/prettytoneywrites/?hl=en) shared with me - somehow it freed this poem into what it became.
